Although almost all cases are settled out of court, our firm has been very successful for our clients in the courtroom. Gary Galiher, senior partner and lead trial attorney, has tried over 50 jury trials to verdict in asbestos litigation. His two most recent verdicts were awards of $5.3 million and $9.8 million.

Success in Settlements

Our firm has helped recover more than $600 million for asbestos victims in the past 30 years. We have recovered tens of millions of dollars in non-asbestos personal injury or wrongful death suits, including significant class-action settlements. Galiher DeRobertis Ono also obtained $1.4 billion for the taxpayers of Hawaii in a settlement against the tobacco industry.

Landmark Settlement with Johns-Manville

In 1982, Gary Galiher negotiated a landmark settlement with Johns-Manville corporation, the largest manufacturer and seller of asbestos products in the Western Hemisphere. After negotiating a $5 million aggregate settlement on behalf of 141 asbestos plaintiffs, Gary demanded that Johns-Manville post a bond to guarantee its settlement. As a result, all of our clients received their settlements even when Johns-Manville declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy – a bankruptcy that left thousands of asbestos victims without any recovery from this major asbestos company for many years.

Uncovering Massive Fraud – The Travelers Insurance Company Settlement

While representing our clients, we uncovered a massive fraud by one of the defendants in the asbestos litigation. As a result, we ultimately helped to assemble a multi-state team and negotiate a settlement of $400 million with The Travelers Insurance Companies for thousands of asbestos claimants.
