Hazards of Asbestos

For decades the hazards of asbestos to human health have been well researched and documented. Until at least the 1970’s asbestos was widely used in tons of products and materials. Sadly, millions of Americans have been exposed to this deadly cancer causing agent. Unfortunately, the effects of asbestos have a long latency period and it can take 20 to 50 years for the first symptoms of asbestos related diseases to show. Asbestos exposure is known to cause malignant mesothelioma, lung cancer and asbestosis.

It is important to talk to your doctor immediately if you believe you have been exposed to asbestos. People that have worked with asbestos or may have had a spouse or family member that worked with asbestos are considered high risk and should see their doctor regularly for checkups.
