Products Containing Asbestos

Throughout the twentieth century asbestos was contained in many industrial and household products. Asbestos was widely used in many industries as thermal insulation and fireproofing. Many industries also used asbestos for sound insulation, construction material, electrical insulation, sealing, paints, coatings and friction products. Not as well known are some of the household items that contained asbestos such as, furnaces, toasters, irons, ovens, hair dryers or miscellaneous items such as toys, artificial snow and pot holders. The content of asbestos in these products could range from 1% to 100% asbestos.

The use of asbestos in products in the United States was phased by 1989. However, many asbestos containing products are still in use today and potential exposure to asbestos still exists.
