What is Mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma is a rare cancer that is caused by asbestos to exposure. When asbestos dust becomes airborne and is inhaled, tiny asbestos fibers become lodged in the tissue of the lungs. Once inside the body these fibers act as a highly toxic carcinogen. Mesothelioma can take decades to develop after the original exposure to asbestos.

This aggressive cancer attacks the protective lining that surrounds lungs, abdomen, and heart, called the mesothelium. The mesothelium lining is essential for the lungs, heart and abdomen to function properly. Regrettably, this type of cancer is considered terminal and currently there is no cure for this disease.
